Senior Resources: Personal Assistant
You want some help for yourself or your family member in their home. Maybe they need a little help in bathing, remembering to take medications, preparing meals, getting in and out of bed, or keeping up with household duties. But letting someone come into a personal home - How do you find someone to trust? Who is a good match with you? You can find competent, honest, reliable caregiving help. Most families get help from agencies providing Personal Assistant Services. These agencies solve many of the problems of paid care:
They screen, investigate and interview candidates. They cover their wages, payroll taxes and workers compensation insurance. They provide backup staffing and an array of skilled help from companionship to nursing.
With a few exceptions, paying for Personal Assistant Services is a Private Pay (out of your pocketbook) service. Options for helping with this cost include Long Term Care Insurance.
Your Community Guide will list all Personal Assistant Services Agencies licensed by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services(DADS). Contact the DADS Consumer Information Hotline at 1-800-458-9858 to obtain the most recent information about these services.
