Diabetes
In Texas, more than 1.3 million residents suffer from diabetes—a complex disease requiring self-management regardless of educational level, physical capability, financial or insurance status. Easy access to effective diabetes education is rare in Texas. In addition, health care professionals have very limited time to help people with diabetes learn what to eat, what portions of each type of food to choose, how to increase physical activity, and how to manage sometimes very difficult medicine regimens.
(TIPHER) The Institute for Public Health and Education Research in New Braunfels offers free and low cost classes in Diabetes prevention and management. To view their programs, use the link to their website in this section of www.yourcommunityguide.org.
